Second Philippines team joins the ASEAN Basketball League

San Miguel Beer Philippines is the seventh and newest member of the ASEAN Basketball League. According to club president Ramon Ang, its management will "do everything" to come up with the best possible roster for the ABL’s third season starting in January.

The club is the second from the Philippines. Other teams participating are the inaugural ABL champions, Philippine Patriots, owned by Mikee Romero, last season’s champions, Chang Thailand Slammers, Indonesia's SatriaMuda BritAma, the Singapore Slingers, the Brunei Barracudas, and Malaysia's Westport’s KL Dragons.

South East Asia Basketball Association president Erick Thohir said the ABL is concerned that the Brunei Barracudas might opt out next season. "Our target is to have eight teams and have a prolonged six-month season. Brunei might not make it since they lack players in there. We are currently talking to two more interested parties from Thailand and Vietnam that might join us, too," the Indonesian tycoon told the Manila Standard Today.
