ASEAN's first military exercise co-hosted by Singapore and Indonesia

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) are co-hosting the inaugural ASEAN Militaries' Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Table-Top Exercise (ASEAN HADR TTX).

Over 100 personnel from ASEAN militaries are participating in the three-day exercise currently underway. The first two days of the exercise will be held at Singapore's Changi C2 Centre, and comprise workshops and a scenario-based table-top exercise.

The third day of the exercise, to be held in West Java, Indonesia, will feature a heli-evacuation simulation and the distribution of relief packages to the local community. A joint SAF-TNI medical team will also conduct a medical civic-action programme in West Java.

In May, a Joint Declaration of the ASEAN Defence Ministers welcomed the initiative of Indonesia and Singapore to co-host the exercise "as a sign of positive progress in practical cooperation in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief."
