ASEAN is top Asian destination for USA investment; two-way trade hits $178 billion

USA foreign direct investment (FDI)in ASEAN rose to $155 billion last year from $122.9 billion in 2009, making it the biggest destination in Asia, outnumbering China or India.

"We're looking forward to the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, which will help propel American interests further in this incredible dynamic place," US-ASEAN Business Council President Alexander Feldman told the Business Times (Singapore).

The USA's goods trade with ASEAN countries totaled $178 billion in 2010, while exports amounted to $70.4 billion, up 31% since 2009. US goods imports from ASEAN were $107.8 billion in 2010, up 17% from 2009.
