India requests improved services sector offer by ASEAN

India intends to negotiate for broader service sector access to ASEAN countries in return for substantial market entry it provided the 10-member South East Asian grouping last year. Indian-ASEAN trade in 2010 recorded growth of 22% to $50.33 billion, of which India's exports accounted for $22.52 billion. India has already entered into bilateral FTAs that include commitments in goods, services and investments with Singapore and Malaysia. Similar agreements are in the pipeline with Thailand and Indonesia.
